May 4 - August 7, 2011
I was very impressed with the Alexander McQueen exhibition, which included a variety of single pieces, ensembles, accessories, shoes, video, and a hologram.
The strength that McQueen's clothes have is not only its inherent beauty, but also its strong conceptual core. McQueen derives inspiration from both nature and technology, utilizing both in his elaborate catwalks. Much of his work deals with challenging ideals of beauty (such as VOSS, 2011). I enjoyed when McQueen took to more personal influences, such as his Scottish heritage. Although sometimes the clothes and accessories were pretty kitschy, the whole exhibit was incredibly interesting nonetheless.
